Stephen & Michael cycling in the Ride Across Britain for 7 charities

For most British based cyclists cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats or the other way round is the ultimate cycling challenge you can embark on. This year Stephen Davies and Michael Huggins will be putting themselves through the test of endurance for the ultimate cycling adventure. The journey begins on 9th September 2017 when they will join 700 other cyclists who are aiming to complete 960 miles as part of the Ride Across Britain.

Two inspirational charity cyclists are preparing to take on one of their most magnificent challenges to date – by raising money for seven different causes at the same time. Michael Huggins and Stephen Davies, who work for Mondelez International Bournville, estimate that they have raised over £100,000 in the combined ten years they have been based at the sweet-flavoured site.

And in September, the dynamic duo hope to add another £7,000 to this total when they begin their cycle from Land’s End in Cornwall to finish nine days later at John O’Groats in Scotland, having covered almost 1000 miles in the saddle.

They plan to raise £1,000 each for Acorns Hospice, Three Hills Action Trust, Sandwell Advocacy, The British Paralympic Association, The SMA Trust, Woodcraft Folks and our charity Cerebral Palsy Midlands.

Michael, aged 50 from Oldbury has been working for the company for the past 29 years, and will be joined by friend and colleague Stephen, aged 55 from Bromsgrove who has been with Mondelez for 39 years. The pair have been training for the challenge since February, covering between 100 – 150 miles a week on their bikes, and are excited to take on the ride for the third time.

Michael said: “This is going to be an incredible experience for us and each of the seven charities we have chosen are important to us, and our co-workers. We are confident we can, with the help of our many friends and the charities, raise the £1,000 for each of them, and we will make sure everyone is kept updated on our journey with pictures and our blog.”

Michael continues, "Having done the ride a couple of times previously, we know that we have a lot of work ahead to complete it, and will be cycling around 110 miles a day. But this is something we enjoy and know a lot of people within the West Midlands will benefit from, and that's what keeps us going."

Cerebral Palsy Midlands (CPM) provides a community day service and supports people with cerebral palsy in the West Midlands area. We aim to empower people, promoting independence, providing bespoke care and educate people about disability awareness.

Development Officer Sarah Lilly said: "We at Cerebral Palsy Midlands are very honoured to be one of their magnificent seven charities that they are supporting, this will make a huge difference for those we support and will make a huge difference to our community centre, if you would like to make a donation to our registered charity Cerebral Palsy Midlands and support their tremendous cycling efforts please donate via the links on this page."
