My Story

In March 2017 I ran the Wilmslow half marathon after finding out that same week that I was expecting our second child. Sometime afterwards, during a routine scan into our pregnancy a significant abnormality with our baby’s heart was picked up and what followed was the most heart-breaking decision we have ever had to make, to end our pregnancy.

On Saturday, 8 July I gave birth to our  son, Fletcher. Dean and I held our perfect little boy and we said our goodbyes.

ARC (Antenatal Results and Choices) is a small charity, based in London and the only one in the country set up to specifically deal with the questions that arise when faced with a concern during antenatal scans. They provided much needed support to us when we had questions and needed follow up support and they are still there for us to turn to whilst we deal with our grief, loss and the weight of the decision we were forced to make.

It therefore feels fitting that I run the Wilmslow half marathon again. I ran it in 2017 with Fletcher and now Dean and I shall run it together in 2018 for Fletcher. We are lucky enough to be supported by a group of friends who have all agreed to run with us.

We have Fran Riley, Anne Laybourne, Guy Barlow, Helen Carter, Craig Chivers, myself  and Dean. As Team Fletcher, we can encourage and motivate each other whilst keeping ourselves focused throughout the training. Team Fletcher is one of mixed abilities, some have never run a half marathon before. As part of our training we all have two challenges to focus on; the first being to train to beat our own personal bests and the second to abstain from alcohol for a 30 day on going period.

Any donation no matter how small can help.
