My Story

Update 2!! We completed the 13.5 mile Woodhouse Eaves May Day Challenge on the hottest May Day on record! From snow to heat wave - could only happen to us. It certainly was a challenge - but an enjoyable one (for the first half at least!), and the cake stops were definitely a highlight. Thank you for all your donations - we really appreciate every single one of them! Xx

Update!! Sadly the snow scuppered our 1/2 marathon plans - the Bath 1/2 was cancelled. Undeterred we have signed up for a more challenging challenge, we want to make sure we earn your sponsorship! We'll now be taking part in the Woodhouse Eaves May Day Challenge. This is a 13.5 mile course, off road and hilly but does include cake. What’s not to like! So on with the training and this gives us a few months more to pester you all for sponsorship :-)

We are attempting to run (jog/walk/crawl) the Bath 1/2 Marathon to raise money for a charity very close to our hearts - ARC. ARC supported us through a devastating time when at 4 months into our pregnancy, our daughter was diagnosed with a number of serious conditions. We were heartbroken, we'd been through IVF to become pregnant and having to decide whether to continue with the pregnancy or not was horrendous. Sadly we said goodbye to our little girl a few weeks later. During this time ARC was amazingly supportive. Always there to listen to us and answer any questions we had - these are not easy conversations to have but they were able to provide us with balanced, evidence based (important for a statistician!) information in a compassionate and sensitive way, without sugar-coating the facts we needed to know. We would recommend that anyone in a similar position contacts them and we want to help them to continue to provide this invaluable support to other parents. We are intending to complete this run together. Laura has never run this far before and hasn't run since before the IVF started, David has run this far before but not with Laura and finds it impossible to run slow enough to keep with her! So this will be both a challenge of fitness and our relationship! But we are both keen for something positive to come out of this horrible experience and surely if we can get through that - we can manage 13 miles together?? So please encourage us with your donations - this is a great cause. xx
